The second album from Somebody's Child, the project of Dublin's Cian Godfrey, released on Frenchkiss Records and recorded in the US with Grammy-winning producer Peter Katis of The National, Interpol and Frightened Rabbit renown. It follows a breakout few years that saw the band support Kings of Leon and The War on Drugs, headline the 3Olympia and play the main stage at Electric Picnic, and it finds them pushing well beyond the guitar-led energy of their 2023 self-titled debut.
Opener 'The Kid' sets the tone, building layer by layer from a sparse electronic pulse into full anthemic flight, while singles 'Last Night I Held Your Hand' and 'Porcelain (Losing All My Patience)' pair infectious indie rock with painfully honest lyricism. The synth-driven title track nods to Kraftwerk, 'The Waterside' strips everything back to a stark acoustic ballad, and closer 'Time of My Life' erupts in an LCD Soundsystem-style euphoria. Across eleven tracks it is a coming-of-age record in the truest sense, wrestling with time, ageing and what gets left behind.
