The debut album from Irish experimental doom-folk quartet ØXN are Radie Peat (Lankum), Katie Kim, and Percolator's John 'Spud' Murphy and Eleanor Myler. Somewhere between the traditional, the future and the eternal: centuries-old murder ballads slowed to a crawl and rebuilt with drones, harmonium, mellotron and three-part vocals that sit closer to This Mortal Coil or Nick Cave at his darkest than to any session in a snug.
CYRM (pronounced "sy-rum") was recorded by Murphy (whose production credits include Lankum, black midi and Junior Brother) in five days at Hellfire Studios in the Dublin mountains. Child ballads 'Cruel Mother' and 'Love Henry' anchor the record alongside 'The Wife of Michael Cleary' - drawn from the infamous 1895 Tipperary burning - and a towering close on Scott Walker's 'Farmer in the City'.
