NEWDAD - MADRA (Vinyl)

The debut album from the Galway four piece, and the moment their early promise came good. Madra (Irish for dog) wraps Julie Dawson's blunt, self-lacerating lyrics in a glistening shoegaze-pop exterior, pulling from The Cure and Slowdive but landing somewhere very much their own. Angel and Let Go bring the heavier guitars, while Where I Go and In My Head are proper dream-pop gems. Produced by Chris W Ryan and mixed by Alan Moulder, it sounds enormous.
