NEWDAD - Altar (Vinyl)

The second album from the Galway band, now a trio, written largely in the wake of their move to London and heavy with homesickness for the west coast. Altar sharpens everything from the debut: choruses hit harder, the guitars are more upfront, and Julie Dawson has grown into a properly commanding frontwoman. Roobosh brings the fury, Pretty is a straight up love letter to Galway, and closer Something's Broken ends things on a note of hard-won hope. Produced by Shrink, mixed by Craig Silvey.

The Irish Times gave it five stars, calling it "beautifully bleak listening."
