Wave Atlas: Season One is the debut album from Dublin duo Mount Alaska, the project of Stephen Shannon and Cillian Mc Donnell. Conceived as the soundtrack to a television series that does not exist, these eight pieces drift between ambient stillness and electronic drama, scoring scenes the listener is left to imagine. Built largely from a 1982 Roland Juno 60, an old piano and a single kick drum, it is a record of texture and patience, owing as much to Ólafur Arnalds and Jóhann Jóhannsson as to the synth pioneers who came before them. Immersive, cinematic and quietly beautiful, it rewards close listening on a good pair of speakers. Available now on CD and digital.
