The second album from Dublin four-piece MELTS, released on Fuzz Club, banishes any thought of a sophomore slump. Recorded live to tape at Black Mountain Studios and produced by Gilla Band's Daniel Fox, it's a relentless collision of motorik synths, densely layered guitars, primal drumming and the cavernous vocals of Eoin Kenny. Where 2022's Maelstrom surveyed forces at city scale, Field Theory turns inward, borrowing its title from physics to explore the unseen forces that pull people into each other's orbits: love, loss, longing and the space between us all. From the propulsive opener Figment to the seven-minute whirlwind of WLDNG and the minimalist comedown of Softly Breathes, it's a record built for both headphones and sweat-soaked rooms.
